The Spiritual and Scientific Significance of Lighting Diya

The Hindu culture and practices are mystical. The celestial aspects of our being has not been so blissfully woven around a religion with such enigma and tranquility. The practices and rituals followed in Hindu culture are often criticized to be intertwined with taboos of superstition. Nevertheless it is the same culture which enlightened us with the practices and way of living which preaches the most developed and civilized ways of living.

There are simple practices which Hindu culture treated us. These practices and rituals have wonderful tales and beliefs built around them. But the most important fact behind all such stories are scientific. The stories were only used as driving force to make people akin to something which is very scientific. Lighting of akhand diya for instance in different part of our home is one of the most unquestionable practices that has been followed with complete devotion by our mothers and grandmothers since ages. The tradition is passed on to generation from generation.

Borosil Akhand Diya

The philosophy of lighting the lamp in Hindu household is profound. Lighting of lamp in Hindu culture denotes dispelling away darkness or sadness from our lives and welcome happiness with open arms. The akhand Diya is lighted following profound auspiciousness. The bottom portion of the lamp or the lotus seed is considered to be Lord Bramha, the middle of the Lamp is Lord Venkateshwara, the portion where the oil of Ghee is poured is Lord Rudran, The portion where wick settles is Lord Maheswara and the end of the wick is Sadashiva while the Ghee or oil is Natham.

There is also a deep rooted scientific significance of lighting diyas at your place as well. Lighting the Diya with ghee makes it a pure and safe repellent for insects. Therefore, many such practices are followed in Hindu culture which beholds both spiritual as well as scientific significance.

Reigning Cups And Saucers Full Of Secrets To Bring You Alive!

The beginning of June had announced the onset of the much awaited monsoons. However, little did one imagine that the swelling clouds would continue their reigning onslaught over three months incessantly. Roads getting water logged, the swishing wipers of vehicles and the common sight of drenched people hurriedly scurrying for a shelter had become the order of the day.

As the rain gods played peekaboo every now and then, I grew tired of the rains. Never was really fond of them though. However, it was one serendipitous incident that infused me with so much joy that it changed the way I took to the rains ever since.

It had been pouring since morning the other Friday. It was late in the evening when I staggered into my room thoroughly drenched and returned home exhausted from work. Complaining of the rains by then had become second nature to me.

CLASSIC TEA SETS

I changed into my casual attire and slumped onto the bean bag near the veranda. My mother walked into the room with a tray, the sight of which made me sit up. The waft of the aroma from fresh liquor tea was enough to tantalize my senses.

However, what arrested my attention more were the aesthetics of the container that cradled the tea. Upon closer inspection, I observed the simplicity of the cup and saucer set. As I held the cup at eye level against the light near the verandah, I saw the light rays through the glass getting refracted into seven rainbow hues. Alongside I observed that the exact same process was repeating itself among the dancing rain-droplets which hugged along the verandah grill in total harmonious rhythm . The pitter patter of the rain chimed in and I realised how this tea cup, which I was holding in my hand,so very wonderfully had become a music conductor. It had called upon an entire orchestra to make my senses come alive. That too from a simple experience of sipping daily tea !

One inquisitive look at the bottom to see the manufacturer of this ‘poetry in motion’ revealed itself as MyBorosil. Having tea from MyBorosil cup turned out to be extremely rewarding.Indeed this new entrant into our house that evening not only enriched the flavour of my tea but added a new dimension to the way I looked at raindrops and took to the rains!

Borosil Classic Tea Sets

I turned on my stereo and tuned in to one of my all time favourite tracks by BJ Thomas. As the music filled the room amidst all the pitter patter, I lay back relaxing on the bean bag with my gaze fixed at the water droplets on the window sill and swayed to the mellifluous track :

“ Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me..”

Thanks to MyBorosil as it showed me through a cup and saucer set the extraordinary power of simplicity and natural beauty in it’s pure form. After all isn't that what appeals most to the senses and makes us happy ? No wonder, I realised that lucky are those few who get to feel the rain when others just get wet!
